As you may or may not know by now, I have my own School Holiday Football Clinics for Girls ages 8-18 years of age.
The purpose behind the clinics stems from a lack of opportunity I had as an aspiring young female footballer, as an 8 year old a whole 17 years ago (gee I’m starting to feel old). Growing up in the Western suburbs of Sydney in a town called Quakers hill, I was one of 2 girls in my entire Greater Western Sydney football region for my age and the opportunity to play in a Female football environment was scarce. Don’t get me wrong I loved playing with the boys and it definitely contributed to the player I am today, but there wasn’t many Females in the game all those years back.
So why KSFC, it’s more to me than creating an All Girls “club” where the players learn different skills and techniques to progress them as footballers, my passion drives deeper than that. The purpose behind developing these 2 day Holiday clinics is to create an environment where aspiring Female Footballers can come in and be comfortable in their surroundings, rubbing shoulders with like for like other female athletes striving for the same dream, to be the best they can possibly be. In hope that I can empower and inspire these young girls to instill self confidence, belief and positivity in any aspect of their lives, whether that be on the football pitch, through their academics, or being a positive leader amongst their peers.
I believe a lot of success comes from Belief, Passion, Focus and Hard work. I’m not giving empty promises that participants will be the next Matilda, but what I am promising is an enjoyable and unforgettable experience where I can inspire these girls through my story, and have them leaving with a new sense of belief and self confidence which they can take back into their other football environments.
I think back to me as an 8 year old where my childhood hero Cathy Freeman, inspired me as I sat in my family lounge room and watched her bring home the gold medal for our country at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. The impact that had on my life is indescribable, and my motive is driven from that moment.
I’m hopeful that I have a similar impact on these girls lives, as Cathy did on mine and if I can achieve that I’ll be more than happy.
My goal is to leave the game better than when I came in, and this is just one way I endeavour to give back to the next generation of Australian Footballers.
If you or someone you know is interested in attending my upcoming KSFC in the January 2017 School Holidays, you can register on my website (www.kyahsimon.com) and find more details under the ‘Football Clinics’ tab.
